So excited to announce that I have been listed among these amazing women as a B. Iden Payne Award nominee for best lead actress in a musical! Medium Alison was an absolute dream to play and working on Fun Home was an incredible experience from beginning to end. I am also delighted that Sarah Marie (Alison), Mariela (Small Alison), and Lisa (director) were nominated as well. And the show was nominated for best production of a musical! Wow!

Been a busy few months. So I did a little catching up today on sharing photos from some of my most recent projects. Check out these gorgeous photos by Errich Petersen, Dave Hawks, Henry Huey, and Kenny Gall: And here's a sneak peek of what you will see...
I am really glad I was able to participate in Intimacy Training yesterday. It was a lot more...well, intimate than I expected it to be. But not in an overwhelming way at all. We went to those places because by the end of the day we were truly ready to explore some seriously challenging work together. I am proud of what I saw my classmates achieve and of what I learned as well.
So grateful to Violent Crown for arranging with Intimacy Directors International to hold this training in Austin. This year went by pretty quickly, but a lot happened!
Here are some of the things I did in 2018: —Took a bunch of fun classes: singing, film acting, stage combat, ASL, aerials, and ballet —Directed ImprovEd Shakespeare while Andee continues her travels around the world —Joined the B. Iden Payne Committee —Choreographed and performed my first aerial routine —Did a local school touring show —Played in my first improvised musical —Understudied 3 shows —Coproduced 2 shows —Codirected 2 shows —Performed in 11 projects, events, or shows —Saw over 85 unique, local performances —Changed my major to Joan Looking back and looking forward, I continue to be floored by how lucky I am to do what I love with such an amazing community of artists. Here's to the next step in the journey! It's official! I will be playing Medium Alison in Ground Floor Theatre's production of Fun Home. I still can't believe it. We had our first read through last night and I am over the moon to be working with this team. I'm officially Changing My Major this December!

After you've watched the trailer, check out some highlights from our first review: "Flanagan and Musser give us performances that feel contemporary and approachable, even as Romeo and Juliet in the third act. "Bridget Gates gives a strong performance and Amelia Turner shines with poise and grace." "In fact all the actresses in the performance I attended gave us strong performances. They were aided by quite a pedigree of consulting directors that includes, among others, Rudy Ramirez, Robert Matney and Jenny Lavery." "It's a testament, I presume, to the work done in this piece, that nary a scene was made awkward by using same sex couples to interpret it." "It's a labor of love in real life for Musser and Flanagan, who are dedicated to bringing the experience of queer relationship, and moreover, relationship without gender to the forefront in this work." "This is an evening of experimenting with Shakespeare and pulling it off without gimmicks or outlandish concepts." "You can count on an evening of Shakespeare that will be performed with expertise and ease. It's a worthy experiment in which to participate." (Link to Joni Lorraine's full review here) |
