A little less than one month until we perform this hilarious, exciting, beautiful, tragic poetry in front of an audience! And now the press release is out! I hope to see you at Ramsey Park!
Romeo and Juliet by Something for Nothing Theatre Oct. 13 - Oct. 29 Thursdays-SundaysThis fall Something for Nothing Theater graduates from one show to two shows a year with our Romeo and Juliet, featuring an all-star cast of Austin’s favorite Shakespeareans! R&J stars B. Iden Payne Award winners Justin Scalise as Mercutio and Taylor Flanagan as Juliet. The show also features David Boss as Friar Lawrence, Bob Jones as the Nurse, Becky Musser as Tybalt, and Steve Price as Lord Capulet. One notable new face is Madu, an NYU Tisch grad who will be joining us as Romeo. The tradition of Shakespeare in Ramsey Park (4301 N. Rosedale Ave Austin TX 78756) continues with this new fall show. Our company produces the plays with minimal props, costumes, and lighting, focusing on storytelling and the wonderful language of Shakespeare. For more information, contact Artistic Director Deb Streusand at [email protected] or www.facebook.com/SomethingforNothingTheater. Romeo and Juliet is so well-known that a plot summary would be superfluous, but its attractions include youthful passion, deeply artful language, Renaissance dance, and intense sword fighting. For this production, the script has been cut down to less than two hours, so it will be a snappy experience particularly appropriate for students who might read the play in school. Bring a blanket or chair, pack some snacks, and join us for this passionate adventure in Renaissance Italy! Director Deb Streusand says, “Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy of what didn’t have to happen, featuring young, mad lovers who could have survived if not for their insane passion and the anger of almost everyone around them.” Streusand, Something for Nothing’s Artistic Director, has also directed The Winter’s Tale for Something for Nothing, as well as Shakespeare’s Tempest and George Peele’s The Old Wives’ Tale at Mary Baldwin College, where she received her MFA with a focus on directing. She has served as dramaturg for Something for Nothing’s productions of Hamlet and Henry the Fourth Part One.
