Becca and I will be joined every night of the run by a different pair of guest performers and we are overjoyed to finally share our incredible cast!
Amelia Turner and Bridget Gates (May 26) Robert Deike and Jon Sydney Watson (May 27) Kevin Moxley and Stephen Cook (May 28) Victoria Barton and Nell McKeown (June 2) Kate Clark and Heidi Penix (June 3) Rachel Marie Abbott and Chelsea Manasseri (June 4) I assure you, despite the date, this is no April Fool’s Day joke. Becca Musser and I are just 7 days into our fundraising campaign and we are blown away by the response: a hundred dollars in donations each day! At this rate we’ll have our venue paid for in less than a month! Which is good news because we want as much money as possible for our out-of-this-world creative team.
We’ll be announcing our cast list soon, but in the meantime we are champing at the bit to share our team of Consulting Directors. Our performers will receive guidance from Robert Matney, Sara Snyder, Rose Kentspeth, Katie Van Winkle, Rudy Ramirez, Lily Wolff, Deb Streusand, Amelia Turner, Stephanie Donowho, and Nell McKeown! We can barely hold in the excitement! Can you?! If you're interested in supporting this project and the creative minds behind it, you can visit our fundraising page here: www.gofundme.com/lovegoestowardlove I am ridiculously pumped to announce that Becca Musser and I (along with an incredible team of Austin artists) are going to slay some Shakespeare together May 26th - June 4th. If you would like more information about our project, you can check out our fundraising campaign here: https://www.gofundme.com/lovegoestowardlove Excited to announce that I'll be playing Marianne in Tartuffe at City Theatre April 7th-30th and Thersites in Troilus and Cressida with Something For Nothing at Ramsey Park June 8th-24th.
I hope to see you there! I am delighted to see so many of my amazingly talented friends among this year's nominees for Broadway World Austin Awards!
I have made it no secret how special The Baron's Men's The Lark was for me as a person and as a performer. Working on this show, getting to play this amazing young woman, with this specific group of people, was healing and empowering. So, I am especially glad to see some of my Lark family among the nominees! Robert Deike's Warwick and Beaudricourt, Ryan Wilson's Dauphin, my Joan, and The Lark as a whole are nominated in the Drama category. And, in the Comedy category, Shrewd Productions' As You Like It got a handful of nominations as well: Lily Wolff's directing, Julie Moore's Touchstone, the entire cast's performance, and As You Like It as a whole. And countless other amazing friends were honored in this year's nominations for their work in productions that I got to enjoy from the audience side of things. Looking at this year's nominations was like flipping through a scrapbook of some of my favorite productions, both as a performer and theatre-goer. Congratulations to all the 2016 nominees! But, when all is said and done, this post is really just a big, long excuse for me to share these fake movie posters I made featuring my BWW nominated cast mates: Are you sad that you couldn't do Beth Burns' mind-blowing, world-expanding, toolbox-cramming Shakespeare workshops earlier this month?
I understand the impulse, but there's NO NEED! Because she's going to conduct more of them and soon! Love Shakespeare, but don't know how to turn that love into a knockout performance? You should sign up! Think you don't like Shakespeare? You should just sign up. Think you're god's gift to Shakespeare? You should especially sign up. So whatever your relationship is to the Bard, give yourself a gift and go, go, go! Stay tuned to Hidden Room Theatre's facebook page for more information. I sincerely hope you get the chance to take this class from a truly gifted and inspiring director and Shakespearean coach. Below is an excerpt from Hidden Room's press release about the most recent round (the workshops I just got to experience and loved): Guided by Beth Burns, these weekend workshops offer actors increased skill, confidence, energy, and joy when performing Shakespeare. Level 1 focuses on verse handling, making strong character choices from small textual clues, allowing the sounds of words to better inform choices, fresh-minting language, and monologue work. Level 2 focuses on more advanced verse handling and character choices, prose handling, using rhetorical devices to your advantage, and scene work, especially for large (or problem) scenes. Excited to announce that Bear Eats Bear is going to New York later this month for POP! This is a truly unique piece, written by THE Lydia Blaisdell and directed by Katie Van Winkle (one of my favorite people in the world), with vocal performances from yours truly and an all-star cast of amazing Austin actresses. And it's free! If you find yourself in New York around this time: treat yourself! A little less than one month until we perform this hilarious, exciting, beautiful, tragic poetry in front of an audience! And now the press release is out! I hope to see you at Ramsey Park!
Romeo and Juliet by Something for Nothing Theatre Oct. 13 - Oct. 29 Thursdays-SundaysThis fall Something for Nothing Theater graduates from one show to two shows a year with our Romeo and Juliet, featuring an all-star cast of Austin’s favorite Shakespeareans! R&J stars B. Iden Payne Award winners Justin Scalise as Mercutio and Taylor Flanagan as Juliet. The show also features David Boss as Friar Lawrence, Bob Jones as the Nurse, Becky Musser as Tybalt, and Steve Price as Lord Capulet. One notable new face is Madu, an NYU Tisch grad who will be joining us as Romeo. The tradition of Shakespeare in Ramsey Park (4301 N. Rosedale Ave Austin TX 78756) continues with this new fall show. Our company produces the plays with minimal props, costumes, and lighting, focusing on storytelling and the wonderful language of Shakespeare. For more information, contact Artistic Director Deb Streusand at [email protected] or www.facebook.com/SomethingforNothingTheater. Romeo and Juliet is so well-known that a plot summary would be superfluous, but its attractions include youthful passion, deeply artful language, Renaissance dance, and intense sword fighting. For this production, the script has been cut down to less than two hours, so it will be a snappy experience particularly appropriate for students who might read the play in school. Bring a blanket or chair, pack some snacks, and join us for this passionate adventure in Renaissance Italy! Director Deb Streusand says, “Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy of what didn’t have to happen, featuring young, mad lovers who could have survived if not for their insane passion and the anger of almost everyone around them.” Streusand, Something for Nothing’s Artistic Director, has also directed The Winter’s Tale for Something for Nothing, as well as Shakespeare’s Tempest and George Peele’s The Old Wives’ Tale at Mary Baldwin College, where she received her MFA with a focus on directing. She has served as dramaturg for Something for Nothing’s productions of Hamlet and Henry the Fourth Part One.
